Using the IEC standard 61499, we show a model of a typical production task that is more flexible and dynamic controlled than traditional control technology. The seamless interaction of hardware from different manufacturers, which is only made possible by the IEC standard, deserves special mention.

With regard to modern production organisation, the plant also demonstrates its ability to adapt to changes in the means of production. These could be additional workstations, for example, which are temporarily set up due to seasonal requirements. Another frequently encountered scenario is the re-arrangement of individual plant components, ideally even without interrupting production.
